Massimiliano Pelletti was born on 27 January 1975 in the town of Pietrasanta (Lucca), Italy, where he still lives and works.
As a child, he began learning marble-working techniques from his grandfather Mario, in the family artisan workshop.
After obtaining his diploma from the Stagio Stagi Art School in Pietrasanta, he graduated from the University of Pisa with a degree in Philosophy, a subject that has fascinated and influenced him in the artistic sphere, as well.
He made his artistic debut in 2006, winning the 12th edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean, followed by a series of other prestigious exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad, such as the Alexandria Biennale in Egypt and the 54th Venice Biennale as part of the Italian Pavilion, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi.
His early sculptures feature marble – a noble material from the artist’s homeland – as the main element in the creation of his works. He subsequently broadened his range of materials to quartz, onyx, limestone and other rocks and stones never before used in sculpture, drawing on every rocky element given to us by nature. Pelletti handles his shapes with meticulous compositional care and innovation, while maintaining his ties to traditional sculpture thanks to a collection of plaster classical models inherited from his grandfather.

Massimiliano Pelletti nasce il 27 Gennaio 1975 a Pietrasanta (Lucca), città in cui attualmente vive e lavora.
Sin dall’infanzia frequenta il laboratorio artigiano di famiglia dove, grazie al nonno Mario, apprende le prime tecniche di lavorazione del marmo.
Dopo il diploma ottenuto presso il Liceo Artistico Stagio Stagi di Pietrasanta, si laurea presso l’Università di Pisa in ambito Filosofico, disciplina che lo appassiona e influenza anche in ambito artistico.
Nel 2006 il suo esordio come artista vincendo la partecipazione alla XII Biennale dei Giovani Artisti d’Europa e del Mediterraneo. Seguono successivamente altre importanti esibizioni, italiane ed estere, come la Biennale d’Alessandria d’Egitto e la partecipazione al Padiglione Italia, a cura di Vittorio Sgarbi, della LIV Biennale d’Arte di Venezia.
Le origini della sua scultura vedono il marmo, nobile materia proveniente dalle terre natie dell’artista, come principale elemento per la creazione delle sue opere. Successivamente amplia la scelta dei materiali a quarzi, onici, calcari ed altre pietre mai utilizzate prima in scultura, sfruttando ogni elemento che nelle rocce la natura mette a disposizione. Pelletti tratta le forme con rigorosa attenzione compositiva ed innovazione, pur restando legato alla tradizione della scultura grazie all’avvalersi di una collezione di modelli classici in gesso ereditata dal nonno.
